Liver glycogen reduces food intake and attenuates obesity in a high-fat diet-fed mouse model.
We generated mice that overexpress protein targeting to glycogen (PTG) in the liver (PTG(OE)), which results in an increase in liver glycogen. When fed a high-fat diet (HFD), these animals reduced their food intake. The resulting effect was a lower body weight, decreased fat mass, and reduced leptin levels. Furthermore, PTG overexpression reversed the glucose intolerance and hyperinsulinemia ca...
متن کاملThe Antiepileptic Ketogenic Diet Alters Hippocampal Transporter Levels and Reduces Adiposity in Aged Rats.
Nutritional ketosis is induced by high fat/low carbohydrate dietary regimens, which produce high levels of circulating ketone bodies, shifting metabolism away from glucose utilization. While ketogenic diets (KD) were initially introduced to suppress seizures, they are garnering attention for their potential to treat a myriad of neurodegenerative and metabolic disorders that are associated with ...
متن کاملMicrobiome and Immunity Parental Dietary Fat Intake Alters Offspring
Mechanisms underlying modern increases in prevalence of human inflammatory diseases remain unclear. The hygiene hypothesis postulates that decreased microbial exposure has, in part, driven this immune dysregulation. However, dietary fatty acids also influence immunity, partially through modulation of responses to microbes. Prior reports have described the direct effects of high-fat diets on the...
متن کاملAddition of dietary fiber sources to shakes reduces postprandial glycemia and alters food intake.
INTRODUCTION Obesity and Type 2 diabetes may be controlled by foods capable of modulating food intake and blood glucose. OBJECTIVES We investigated whether the addition of food sources of fiber or phaseolamin to shakes can control food intake and reduce postprandial glycemia. METHODS This was a randomized, single blind, crossover design study (food intake: n=22; glycemia: n=10). Five liquid...
متن کاملIntracerebroventricular CART peptide reduces food intake and alters motor behavior at a hindbrain site.
Peptides from cocaine- and amphetamine-regulated transcript (CART) reduce food intake in rats when injected into the lateral ventricle. Hypothalamic and hindbrain sites important in the control of feeding contain CART-immunoreactive fibers. To further define the site of CART's anorectic action, we compared feeding and other behavioral responses to third or fourth ventricular (3V, 4V) CART-(55-1...
